The song “Numenor” tells the story of the rise and fall of the kingdom of Numenor, illustrating how a magnificent empire ultimately became stagnant. It begins many years into the Second Age, when the Numenoreans start to question the ban imposed by the Valar, which forbids them from sailing west. Their jealousy towards the Elves, stemming from their immortality, leads to a growing fear of death among the Numenoreans.
As tensions rise, the population begins to divide into two factions. One group, the Faithful, continues to worship Eru Ilúvatar and the Valar while maintaining friendly relations with the Elves. The other faction, the King’s Men, rebels against the Valar and becomes hostile toward the Elves.
The last king of Numenor ultimately brings Sauron to the island, triggering disastrous events, including sacrifices and an attempt to sail to Valinor. These actions led to the catastrophic sinking of the island into the ocean. It is the second song off of the Middle Earth EP.
